10/11/22
Here are some notes from Taylor Farms CA to get us through the next month until they transition to Yuma.
- It’s no news to all of you that supply in the Salinas Valley is poor. This is almost universal through all commodities.
- Quality is poor and weakened soil conditions are showing through in harvested product. Lettuce, romaine, all of it is fairly good at best
- Weather is cool in the Salinas Valley, closer to seasonal averages this week. Won’t bring on a bunch of product, but won’t cause damage either.
- Transition is the weekend of Saturday the 12th of Nov with first day in Yuma on Nov 14th
- Mexico has been pummeled by hail and rain. See picture below..
Update by commodity (Cliff notes):
- Green Leaf – Will fall short of averages – expecting 60% of needs
- Green Beans – Grim situation – Going to fall well short of needs this week
- Broccoli – supplies very limited, but Taylor Mexico is helping to supplement.
- Romaine – Expecting to fill to averages but unable to cover any of Mexico’s shortages
Here are some notes regarding Taylor Farms Mexico:
- Expecting more rain this week – some is OK, but they’ve been getting too much all at once
- Hailstorm last week caused some major damage. Hardest hit was Romaine but damage to Greenleaf and Cauli acres was also sustained
- Update by commodity:
- Broccoli for now is OK in Mexico
- Romaine – will be a real struggle this week at best due to some insane weather
- Cauli – Decay and hail damage – Fill rates to continue to be sent out.
