Our Story

With a rich family history in the food business dating back to 1958, Tommy Sundy is more than well-versed in the produce industry. His career in produce began when he opened a retail market in Crestview, Florida, and later expanded the business to include restaurant distribution. For 6 decades, Tommy and his team of local, customer-focused professionals have provided the highest quality of service to our customers. Many of our original team members are still working with Tommy today.

Now known as City Produce, we strive to deliver the finest quality fresh produce to our customers. Dedication and hard work over the years have enabled us to grow to be the most reputable and reliable produce supplier in the region. We have built a loyal customer base in the Florida Panhandle by consistently providing customers with superior-quality produce and unparalleled customer service. In the spring of 2019, we acquired Gulf Coast Produce of Alabama, located in Foley, Alabama, which now services the Eastern Alabama region under the name City Produce of AL.

City Produce is a member of Pro*Act, a national network of local distributors with more than 70 distribution centers across North America. We consolidate our purchasing, marketing, and networking power to achieve a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Pro*Act contracts for us with companies like SunKist, Taylor Farms, Mann’s, Driscoll, Grimmway Farms, and dozens more.

In the spring of 2022, in an effort to further expand our footprint and buying power, City Produce joined FreshEdge to be part of their family of “best-in-class” produce and specialty food companies. Headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, FreshEdge was established in 2019, and since then, numerous other best-in-class distribution companies and their respective value-added operations have joined the FreshEdge family, growing it into a super-regional leader in the fresh food industry with a focus on fresh produce and specialty food items.

FreshEdge’s footprint spans twenty-five states throughout the Midwest and southeastern United States and intends to continue growing by welcoming more fresh food distribution companies into the group—all focused on high-quality produce and specialty food products, along with exceptional service—to create a unique group of complementary entities.
